I am fascinated by the action of powerful forces like whirling hurricanes and twisting tornadoes, by the mysteries of gravitation and magnetism, and by the repeating curvilinear patterns that abound in nature from the sub-atomic to the cosmic in scale. My abstractions are rooted in these experiences.
I begin by painting various curvilinear patterns onto separate rectilinear panels or “fragments.” I bolt these pieces together, like a jigsaw puzzle, to form finished compositions - setting up reverberations, harmonies, and contrasts, among the parts. The interplay of fragments and their relation to the whole leads me to explore connections to my own interior world – as well as to the real world beyond.
